Lasarah's History

Theca, an absent-minded green rider, forgot to take her herbs after her lifemate's flight, and Lasarah was the result. After a brief try at motherhood, Theca decided that it would be better for both if someone else took over the responsibilities. Since the nanny who had currently been in the weyr was strict and strident, Theca asked her aunt and uncle, kindly old farm people in a remote hold, to raise Lasarah. Lasarah, however, grew into a rather active child and soon proved too much for her elderly relatives.

Between circumstances and Lasarah's sometimes challenging nature, she eventually lived with the majority of Theca's relatives, but spent most of the time with Theca's sister and husband, skilled weavers who lived near Ista Hold. It was here that Lasarah learned the basics of the weaver craft, becoming quite skilled in some forms of needlework and embroidery. As she became valuable to them, they let her stay on with them past the age of apprenticeship.

This ended abruptly when Lasarah, after being rather harshly punished for an unfortunate incident involving their prized loom and an escaped caprine, "borrowed" her uncle's runner and ran away to an abandoned cabin. She was quickly discovered, however, and her aunt, frustrated by the girl's actions, persuaded her uncle that it was time she was sent to Weaver Hall to be apprenticed.

Lasarah had other plans, and upon arrival on the Southern Continent, wandered into Herderhall, where she met Calia, who told her about the herder craft. Having never considered another craft other than Weaver, this seemed to be a fresh start for Lasarah, and, in a move that still amazes her, she interviewed and was accepted for apprenticeship in Herderhall. Determined to make this new career work, she has tried very hard to behave herself and not be a challenge to the Masters, with mostly positive results - at least thus far. On the whole, she has found that she is well suited for the herdercraft, and her only regrets involve cleaning the porcine pen.
